During the first week of June, the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Club held its regular summer kyu gradings . This was the opportunity for the students to show to their parents some of the Goshin Jitsu and self defence techniques they had learnt in the last six months of training with the club, and students went through their paces and were awarded their next coloured belts which they had trained for.
The O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu club holds training sessions at a variety of local venues and
the successful students included from their clubs :-
From the Southtown grading (In Goshin Karate)
Red Belts were awarded to – Joanne, Toby, Haydn & Bailey
Yellow Belts were awarded to Rebecca & Joshua
Purple Belt was awarded to Joseph
Senior students included an Orange Belt to Steve Penman and a Brown Belt with Stripe to
Sarah Chandler.
Also awarded were the following club assistant coaching awards to Zak Edwards, Rhiannon Edwards and Sabrina Chant with a club coach awarded and his 2nd Dan grade being awarded to John Edwards.
From the Church Lane grading (In Goshin Jitsu)
Green Belts were awarded to – Paul & April
Blue Belt was awarded to Eve
Also awarded at this round of gradings were a 2nd Dan being awarded to Ben Lawson and a
3rd Dan was awarded to Daniel Storer.
The Clubs Senior Instructor Shihan Kevin Garwood said he was pleased with the progress of all the students, but did emphasize if the junior students want to achieve the highly prized Shodan Ho belt, it has to take a lot of dedication, effort and regular training and like all sports, if you work hard and train regularly you get the rewards.
